Denial-of-service attacks aim to cause momentary harm to, for example, websites. Denial-of-service attacks by hacktivists were especially visible in Finland in 2023. The same seems to continue this year.
In denial-of-service attacks, traffic is directed to websites or services with the aim of disrupting their operation. This becomes apparent to the user in such a way that the websites cannot be accessed or are very slow to use. Denial-of-service attacks are an easy-to-implement and imposing attack technique. They often get attention in the media as well. In most cases, denial-of-service attacks do not cause visible effects to users, and even in the worst case, they mostly lead to short interruptions in public online services.
