Estonian and Finnish information security authorities joined forces in FINEST19 exercise

Information security now!

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-FI) and the Estonian Information System Authority CERT-EE held a joint critical infrastructure incident management exercise called FINEST2019 on 25 March 2019.

The FINEST19 exercise addressed cooperation in responding to a critical infrastructure cyber crisis affecting both countries. The exercise focused in particular on efficient and secure communications as well as creating a collective and shared situation awareness. The main scenario was a cut in electricity supply involving an aspect of cybercrime.

“This exercise helps us identify practices that work and create new ways to resolve issues in a realistic environment,” says Antti Kurittu, head of cyber exercise support at the NCSC-FI. FINEST2019 was the first international joint exercise planned and conducted by the NCSC-FI for the Finnish and Estonian CERT teams.

The exercise was organised in cooperation with Finland’s transmission system operator Fingrid and Estonia's transmission system operator Elering.
